| So I was thinking about all the stupid little stuff I have on my car and how well they work and etc. And I came the realization that my modified Billion thermostat always seems to open soon enuff and flow efficiently enuff to keep the water engine temps super cold. I have a video of me driving around showing 154degree for water and 171degree for oil temps, if I had a 3g2 convertor I post it up. I have the defi water temp sensor directly on the radiator end tanks and oil temp sensor off sandwidch adapter off the oil tree. What I did to my thermostat is modify it by drilling a couple holes on the out edge to allow my coolant to flow better, while this make a difference I wouldn't recommend it as causes car to take alonger to warm up, if I had to do this again I probably would have left it alone. My results are fairly nice on 100+ days even with a FMIC, air filters behind the FMIC, and etc before the radiator I am still seeing at most 190-208 degree temps in dead still traffic with the AC on 72, once the air flow starts moving you can just see the water temps drop like a rock. I done a few runs in third gear at 17psi probably good for around 550rwhp or so and in replay mode you can see water temps rise as the boost rises and then once the dropping back down once the valve opens. In the past I used to have a factory thermostats that were drilled and there was no such behavior the temps would just rise at higher rate than Iam seeing now. I also want to give the caveat that my cooling system has all be slightly modified for example 1. The block and the heads have been smoothed to allow max flow and less obstructions 2. Howe aluminum radiator 3. Billion thermostat 4. Vented hood 5. ducted center panel 6. replaced coolant canistor 7. 1.2 barr radiator cap. 8. 30% coolant 70% water and a bottle of water wetter. 9. I pressure washed and cleaned the A/C condensor of any crap and also straightened all the bent fins and etc. It was said how plugged it was. 10. The oil cooler is no longer in the orginal spot but actually on the side hanging in the spot of one of the intercoolers.
So your results may vary but I think a Greddy 3 row FMIC and air intakes in the way of the radiator can't be helping that much either. One thing I wish I had was the SPL radiator and oil cooler to see how stable my oil temps would really be. ATM I can't really complain as my oil temps are always great and they have a little oil cooler set in the location of one of the intercoolers. Here is a crappy pic from my phone.
here is the video if someone wants to convert it and repost it for me. [ http://pages.prodigy.net/carlosrg/SSPX0202.3g2 ]
